Taragarh Fort
Originally called 'Ajmeru Doorg', the Taragarh Fort of Ajmer, was built in 1354 A.D. on top of 'Nagpahari Hill' by Raja Ajairaj Chauhan. The interesting fact is that it is the first fort in India to be constructed on a hillock. Taragarh Fort was a vital center for military operations during the Mughal rule in Ajmer. The stupendous stone fort is a witness of the royalty and magnifice of the bygone era. The intricate carvings, six imposing gates and a thick crenelated wall guard makes Taragarh Fort one of the most splendid and must watch site in Ajmer. One can see and explore the royal secrets of this architectural marvel although a part of the fort is not open for the masses. The fort houses an awe-inspiring battlement i.e Bhim Burj on which places a large canon, also the huge stone water reservoirs built within the fort are simply remarkable. The main gateway of the fort is decorated with stone sculptures of elephants. With in the premises of the fort, also lies Miran Sahib ki Dargah. The Dargah is revered by both Hindus and Muslims. The fort also offers a spectacular view of the Ajmer city below. One sight of the fort will certainly make you fall for it.
