Pushkar Lake
Pushkar Lake, a holy lake in the town of Pushkar is also an enticing tourist attraction. People from across the country come to Pushkar, Rajasthan to see the scenic setting of this lake and admire the very fact of its existence in a desert land where there is bleak hope of any water resource. A lot of religious importance is attached to this lake. Devotees believe that a dip in the holy water of the lake will wash away all their sins. There is a very interesting folklore associated with Pushkar Lake that goes like this. When demon Vajra Nabh killed the children of Lord Brahma, he got extremely furious and in a fit of rage hurled his weapon, a lotus flower at him. The demon died instantly but the lotus disintegrated and the petals glided down to earth and landed at three places in and around Pushkar spawning a lake called Pushkar meaning 'Pushp' or flower. There are more than 52 bathing ghats around the lake where devotees take dip in the holy water. While in Pushkar, do remember to bathe in the lake water. You can also take a stroll down the outstanding lake and view its water, as it changes color after the sun sets.
